About the department-

Strengths of Department:

1)      Genetic Division under this department.  Patients are referred to this Genetic Division from various clinical disciplines such as Obs.& Gyn., Paediatrics, E.N.T.,Orthopaedics, Medicine, Endocrinology etc, from this Hospital & other Hospitals in Mumbai as well as other parts of the State.

2)      Medico-Legal Work-

      Medico-Legal cases from following districts are referred to our department for expert opinion. 

      Mumbai,Thane,Raigad,& Nashik

3)      Organization of National & International workshops,Hands on training cadaveric courses in ENT, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Anaesthesia.  In 2006 three such workshops were organized.

4)      Active propagation Body Donation Drive.  There is “Deh- Dan Samiti” in J.J.Hospital promoting this causes.

  Apart from this Eye Donation is done.  Recently “Skin Donation” is also being done.

Student & Staff facilities:

Our Institute is old with well equipped museum. Area containing gross anatomy & embryology models.  Our museum is on Bombay visitors list.  We have dissection hall in which 200 students can dissect at a time.  Histology laboratory with capacity of 50 students.

Genetics Division: 

1) "X" & "Y" chromatin study. 

2) Cytogenetics using peripheral blood culture.

5) Genetic counseling. 

 Arrangement of workshops for orthopaedic,Anaesthesia and E.N.T.department.

3)        Klinefelter Syndrom’ – A case report presented in 32nd Annual conference of Indian Society of Human Genetics by Dr.Prasad Kulkarni.

4)        Down syndrome baby with multiple congenital anomalies’ presented in 32nd Annual Conference of Indian Society of Human Genetic by Dr.Shabana Borate.

5)        A rare association of Down Syndrome with Noonan Syndrome’ presented in 32nd Annual by Dr.Vidya Salaskar

6)        Incidence of ‘XY’ females in primary amenorroea’ presented in 32nd Annual by Dr.Abeeda Khan

A project sanctioned by ‘STAR RESEARCH PROJECT’, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Mumbai.

‘Cytogenetic study in pediatric patients with congenital malformations using peripheral blood cultures’ Dr.Shabana Borate.

Training programme on cytogenetics for Biomedical students
