Strengths
of Department:

The
Dept. of psychiatry started at Sir J J hospital in the
year 1941, with Dr. K.R Masani as the first head of
the department. Initially the department was started
as a Psychoanalytical Institute with a single house physician,
Dr. J.C. Martaftia to assist the then head
Dr. K.R Masani.
In the year 1944, a post gradute prgramme was started.
Later undergraduate training was introduced as a part
of Educational programme. Today, the Integrated
Educational Programme consists of not only
undergraduate and post graduate medical training , but
also education and training of B.Sc , Nursing students
training of Nursing personnel for Diploma Examination,
Training of Medical and Psychiatric social worker

involving humans conducted at Grant Medical College
& Sir J.J. Group of hospitals and its associated
hospitals (St. George Hospital, Cama & Albless
hospital and G.T. Hospital).

research are available with the department. Functioning
and necessary equipment required for running a basic
public health laboratory is available.
